Festival Viva México 2011: Conmemorating Mexican Independence

Madison, Wis. –September 9, 2011– The Madison area’s premier Mexican Independence celebration is just a few days away! WLMV – La Movida 1480AM and Mid-West Family Broadcasting have prepared an event unlike any other in celebration of Mexico’s 201th Independence Anniversary.

Celebrate Mexico’s heritage and history in Festival Viva México 2011—Sunday September 18 in Oregon’s Union Sports Club, 155 Braun Road in Oregon, Wis., just minutes south of Madison.

As usual, there will be plenty of delicious Mexican food, traditional Latino folk dance, exhibits and items available for purchase. Festival Viva México will feature a talented lineup of musical performers that is sure to make of this Independence Day celebration an unforgettable event.

Local non-profits and other local organizations will once more be able to share information about their causes and services FREE OF CHARGE. The following institutions have confirmed their attendance and are scheduled to appear:

-Latino Academy of Workforce Development
-Workers’ Rights Center

-Centro Hispano of Dane County

-Supporting Families Together Association

-Latino Chamber of Commerce

Also, there will be a cultural area courtesy of Centro Hispano of Dane County in which attendees will be able to enjoy games for children, displays and other cultural activities.

WLMV – La Movida 1480AM also wishes to thank City of Madison Alderwoman Shiva Bidar-Sielaff for presenting an official resolution which will acknowledge the celebration of Festival Viva México 2011.

Festival Viva México 2011 will present three fun contests; please note that participation is limited to people of 18 years of age and up:

-“El Grito de Independencia” contest, sponsored by Lynette and Bernardo Arce of First Weber.

-El Comelón de Jalapeños (Jalapeño Eating Contest), sponsored by MG Multiservicios & Income Tax.

-Folkloric Dress Contest for Men and Women, sponsored by Wisconsin Financial Services

-Best Decoration for an Automobile, sponsored by Smart Motors.

For a fifth-straight year, Festival Viva México will crown a new Miss Viva México, Elena Alemán, a current Edgewood College student  and winner of the Miss Viva México contest this summer.

For a ninth-straight year, festivities are scheduled to start at 10 am with the traditional “Car Rally”, starting at the Villager Mall, 2300 S. Park St., which will end at Oregon’s Union Sports Club, 155 Braun Road. Maps with the route of the rally will be distributed prior to the beginning of the rally.

All attendees will convene inside the Union Sports Club at noon to be a part of the official “El Grito” ceremony. Festival organizers will also crown the new Miss Viva México.

Festival Viva México 2011 is a cultural event promoting Mexican heritage and is open to everyone, young and old, and from all walks of life.
