Ruben A. Barahona

Name:
Ruben Alejandro Barahona

Birth Place:
Honduras

Family:
My mother, my stepfather Steven, my brother Julio Cesar, and my sister Gloria Marie.

Hobbies:
Watch sports, watch Anime, read political news, and taking walks.

Favorite Sport:
Football. This is Wisconsin after all, and it only makes sense to eat, breathe and sleep Green Bay Packer football. I also follow Wisconsin Badger football, since UW-Madison is my Alma Mater.

Favorite Movie:
Kill Bill, Vol. 1. This movie is the perfect mix of old samurai movies, spaghetti westerns and Anime, all convoluted into a typical Tarantino-esque script.

Favorite Book:
Don Quixote: quite simply the crown jewel of the Spanish language. I think what really alluring about this book is the Cervantes' juxtaposition of romanticism and post-modernism before both concepts even existed. In my opinion, Cervantes was a genius; an underrated and tragic figure.

What are your greatest fears:
There is something that I fear above anything else: failure. It is my belief that we are on this earth to make something out of ourselves, and that we all have potential. Thus, not reaching that potential constitutes a failure to live. This prospect just frightens me.

Three words that describe your Personality:
Reserved, Serious, and Passionate.

How did you get started in Radio?
Well, this is a hard question to answer because this current chapter in my life is still being written; more is yet to happen. What I can say is that this job "found me," as opposed to saying that I found it. It all started when my current boss, Luis Montoto, came out of his way to offer me a place in this station because he liked what I brought to the table: my voice, Journalism degree, and bilingual ability. I'm not sure what will happen tomorrow, the day after, and so on, but I'd like to state that I'm proud to be a member of WLMV-La Movida, that I'll always be grateful for this opportunity, and that I try to do my best as a member of our team. I hope to take this opportunity as far as I can.

Who would you like to interview and what questions would you ask?
Diego Armando "Pelusa" Maradona: quite simply the greatest pure playmaker in the history of soccer.
I'd ask him two questions:
-How does it feel to lead your nation to a world title?
-How does he really feel about cheating an entire nation out of a game (I'm of course referring to the infamous "Hand of God" during that memorable quarterfinal match between Argentina and England in the 1986 FIFA World Cup).

What other talents do you have?
Journalistic writing and research. I can also state that I think of myself as a good listener when it comes to other people's problems.

Any Habits?
I tend to be somewhat of a control freak when it comes to details. I also tend to worry too much about things, especially those that are not under my control. I guess I feel very comfortable when I'm on top of things.

Who has influenced your life?
My late father. I inherited his fiery personality and his "realism" (although some would interpret this as pessimism). I've been able to achieve plenty of good things with this persona of mine.

Who or what do you believe in?
I believe in God. I believe He has a plan for all of us. I believe that everything happens for a reason. I believe that the strong must protect the weak. I believe that government exists to ensure our happiness as a society as long as it stays OUT of our private lives.

Who and Why do you admire?
My grandma. She was able to raise eight children basically on her own under less-than-ideal circumstances. Enough Said!

Other than Radio DJ what other job would you like to have?
I would like to work in public service. I believe that it is our obligation to help those that are in need.

Phrase or saying you regularly utilize?
"In life, the bad things are just around the corner, but all the good things, those that give our lives meaning, are hard to achieve. "Hence, there is no greater satisfaction than reaching our goals through hard work. It makes everything worthwhile."
